MCPHERSON,
Kan. – Northwestern Oklahoma State’s golf teams got
there fall season underway at the Central Christian
Invitation at Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson, Kansas.
Both the Ranger men and women competed.
On
the men’s side, Northwestern finished in sixth place as a
team, just three strokes shy of fifth place. Individually,
Matt Lee finished second after he lost a scorecard playoff.
He shot a 76-69—145 on the day. Byant Briggs followed with a
pair of 76’s for a 152 total. Not far behind was Ty Brilley
with a 79-76—155. Jay Lee fired a 88-75—163, while Matt Kirk
and Brent Anderson recorded a 178 and 181 respectively.
Northwestern’s women had four golfer’s compete in the field
of 12. Cari Hall won medalist honors with a 78-86—164, while
Linda Ladd finished third after shooting an 86-84—170.
Meghan Carey carded a 100-105—205 and Emily Beard ended with
a 108-111—219.
Both
the men’s and women’s teams will be back in action on
October 6-7 when they play in the Oklahoma Panhandle State
University Invitational at Sunset Hills Golf Course in
Guymon.

Northwestern
Oklahoma State University’s men’s and women’s golf coach,
Mike Hood, announced the addition of Emilee Beard of Alva
for the 2008-09 season. Beard recently signed a letter of
intent to play for the women’s team.
Beard, who will graduate from Alva High School in May,
played prep golf under Alva High School Principal and Golf
Coach Steve Parkhurst. A three-sport athlete for the
Goldbugs, Beard played softball and basketball in addition
to golf.
Emilee was a state qualifier for golf during the 2006 and
2007 seasons. She was also on the Goldbug basketball team
that was district champions from 2004-07.
Beard is a member of Who’s Who Among American High School
Students and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Leadership
Camp.
Emilee’s parents are David and Rinda Beard of Alva.
