NORTHWESTERN ENROLLMENT JUMPS MORE THAN FOUR PERCENT, TOPS 2,100
Fall semester enrollment at Northwestern Oklahoma State University has jumped 4.26 percent from a year ago, topping 2,100 students for the first time since 1992.
Preliminary figures show 2,106 students enrolled for fall classes, an increase of 86 students from the same period in 2002. Enrollment in credit hours also is up 3.7 percent.
“Our enrollment numbers validate the programs and initiatives that have been implemented over the past few years,” said Dr. Paul B. Beran, university president. “Our commitment to developing new academic programs, enhancing student life and fostering leadership among the student population has made Northwestern the first choice for a new generation of students.”
Beran noted the increase in students is more notable because Northwestern implemented a double-digit tuition increase, recruits primarily in an area of declining population and last May graduated one its largest classes in some time.
“We are marketing ourselves more aggressively and spreading the word about the outstanding programs and people at Northwestern,” Beran said.
All three campus sites experienced increases in enrollment.
At the main campus in Alva, enrollment jumped 8.1 percent to 1,554 students, an increase of 116 students.
Enrollment at Northwestern-Enid is 409 students, up 8.8 percent or 33 students. Northwestern-Woodward saw enrollment increase to 232 students, a jump of 14.3 percent or 29 students. Enrollment at other outreach sites was 121 students.
The sum of the campus enrollment figures is larger than the total headcount enrollment of 2,106 because some students take classes at multiple campus locations.
