‘SINGATHON’ SCHEDULED APRIL 4 AT WAL-MART
Singers from Northwestern Oklahoma State University will be singing for donations at the Alva Wal-Mart Supercenter beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 4.
“Every dollar donated that day will equal $2 and every $10 will turn into $20 thanks to the generous matching grants of the Wal-Mart Community Involvement Program,” said Aija Shrader, assistant professor of music and organizer of the event. “The Northwestern Studio Singers have no line item in Northwestern’s budget. Whenever we purchase music, background CDs or hire a master clinician to prepare our students for competitions and performances, we have to become creative in our financing.”
The Northwestern Studio Singers present the annual Evening of Song series and the Swing Cabaret and have been state and regional winners in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) collegiate competitions. They also are the main pool of talent for opera workshop productions.
Included in their repertoire for the Singathon will be swing favorites such as “At Last,” “Them There Eyes” and “A Slow Boat to China.”
Singers for the Singathon include Savannah White, Josh Jennings, Ryan White and Alek Shrader of Alva; Esther Hougham, Carbonado, Wash.; Kandee Hookstra, Neodesha, Kan.; Shaleen Miller, Sapulpa; and Bryan Pope, Laverne.
