MARVELS DONATE MATCHING-GRANT FUNDS FOR ENRICHMENT SERIES
Dr. John and Frances Smith Marvel, both 1946
Northwestern Oklahoma State University graduates, have donated $50,000 to the
Northwestern Foundation for the establishment of the Marvel/Smith
Academic/Performance Enrichment Lectureship. The funds will be matched by the
Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to provide a total endowment of
$100,000.

Interest from the endowment will be used to establish an enrichment program that can be either academic or performance in nature and will rotate from year to year, said Jane McDermott, executive director of the Northwestern Foundation.
John Marvel was one of Northwestern’s Centennial Outstanding Graduates. He is the president emeritus of Adams State College (Colo.) and of the Colorado System of State Colleges.
During his 40 years in public and private education administration, John Marvel served as president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities; secretary and board member of the American Council on Education; secretary/treasurer of the National Commission on Accreditation; board member of the Institute of International Education; member of the Board of Fellows of Gallaudet University; member of the Board of Advocates at the University of Oklahoma; and as a trustee of Hawaii Loa College, College of Santa Fe and Iliff School of Theology.
After retiring from the Colorado System of State Colleges, he became an international consultant in education.
The Marvels reside in Santa Fe, N.M.
