SMITH RETIRES, WILL TAKE ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION IN KANSAS

            Dr. Randy Smith, dean of Student Services at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, has announced his retirement and his plans to become Dean of Students at Seward County Community College (SCCC) in Liberal, Kan.

            Smith is expected to begin his new duties at SCCC on July 1.

            “It certainly was a difficult decision to make because of my love for Northwestern and Alva,” Smith said. “My address will be a little different, but I will always be a Ranger at heart.t.

            “I’m looking forward to a new professional opportunity and my family is looking forward to becoming a part of the Seward community.”.”

            Smith has served as dean of Student Services since 2002. Before assuming that position, he served as dean of the Graduate School for four years and also was chair of the Health and Physical Education Department for the 2001-02 academic year.

            Smith was athletic director at Northwestern from 1983 to 1998 and coached baseball from 1981 to 1988. Smith graduated Northwestern in 1975 and began his career at the institution in 1979 as director of housing.

Smith earned his doctor of education degree in educational administration from Oklahoma State University in 1993.

Dr. Paul Beran, president of Northwestern, praised Smith’s contributions to the school.

“Throughout his career, Dr. Smith has always kept the interests of students as his number one priority,” Beran said. “His contributions to Northwestern have been many and he will certainly be missed. I know all of us wish him and his family the best.”
