VALENCIA APPOINTED ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR UNIVERSITY RELATIONS

            Northwestern Oklahoma State University has appointed Steven J. Valencia as associate vice president for university relations, Dr. Paul Beran, university president, said. Valencia’s appointment is effective July 1.

            Valencia has served as director of public relations at Northwestern since 1996. In his new role, he will be responsible for leading the University’s efforts in marketing and public relations and will assist in governmental and corporate relations and other special initiatives. Valencia also will work on special projects related to institutional diversity.

            He is a 1988 graduate of Northwestern with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and earned a master’s degree in education from the school in 2000.

            Valencia is active in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), serving as Oklahoma State Director and member of the District IV Board of Directors. He also is chairman of the Board of Regents of Oklahoma Colleges Public Relations Council and serves on the economic development committee of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Communicator’s Council. Valencia is a past board member for the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association.
