NORTHWESTERN PREPARES FOR WOODS COUNTY FAIR
Woods County Fair patrons will have the opportunity to get their blood pressure checked, get an athlete’s autograph and register for prizes at Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s booth in the Merchants Building Sept. 8-10. The university also will be accepting donations to the Red Cross for hurricane relief.
Members of the university’s nursing program will be at the booth from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, to provide blood pressure checks as a service to the community.
That same day, three players with the Lady Rangers basketball team will be present from 6 to 7 p.m. Alva students Erin Goss and Tara Baker will be there, along with Toni Scales of Colony.
Immediately after the Lady Rangers leave, three members of the men’s basketball team will arrive to sign autographs and visit with fans. Ranger veterans Henry Morris, LaRon Bradley and Tramain Davis will be at the booth from 7 to 8:15 p.m.
B.J. Taylor and Demarko Jones of the Ranger football team will take a turn from 8 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. On Friday, Tony Hatfield and Odie Armstrong will be at the booth from 7 to 8 p.m.
Members of the Ranger cheerleading squad will be at the booth from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
In addition, the Aggie Club again will conduct a petting zoo from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the indoor arena. The group also will assist with stick horse races Saturday morning.
Anyone who stops by the Northwestern booth will have the opportunity to sign up for a variety of prizes to be given away each day of the fair. Prizes include T-shirts from the men’s and women’s basketball teams, “Ride, Rangers, Ride” T-shirts, packages of three Ranger golf balls, a Northwestern Centennial History book, pairs of season tickets to the Northwest Oklahoma Concert Series, Northwestern centennial cookbooks, Northwestern homecoming buttons and one-year subscriptions to the Northwestern News. A one-year membership in the Alumni Association will be awarded to a Northwestern graduate. The Follett Bookstore at Northwestern also is donating one prize to be awarded each day.
Members of the faculty and staff will be at the booth from 3 to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday to answer questions about Northwestern.
