NORTHWESTERN TO HONOR RYERSON FOR SERVICE; INTRODUCE MITCHEL AS NEW REGENT
Northwestern Oklahoma State University will honor Richard Ryerson for his nine years of service as a regent for the Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) during a public reception in Alva on Wednesday, May 21.
The reception will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., in the Ranger Room of the Student Center. Remarks are scheduled for 6 p.m.
At the reception, Northwestern also will welcome Michael Mitchel of Alva as the newest regent to the RUSO governing board. Mitchel was appointed to a nine-year term this spring by Gov. Brad Henry.
Ryerson completed his term as a regent on May 8. He was appointed to the board in 1999 by former Gov. Frank Keating. During his term, Ryerson led the board’s efforts in several presidential searches and advised the system’s institutions on numerous construction projects as chairman of the Building Committee.
“Regent Ryerson always kept the best interests of students in mind during his years of service,” said Dr. Janet Cunningham, president of Northwestern. “The job of a regent can be very time consuming, but he always was well-prepared and professional in his work and Northwestern is grateful for his service.”
Mitchel is a 1970 graduate of Northwestern and a partner in the law firm of Mitchel, Gaston, Riffel and Riffel.
