FAMILY DAY AT NORTHWESTERN, A TRADITION GROWING STRONG

Families in attendance at Family Day enjoyed a reception prior to the football game.  The reception included a pre-game program by Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, and the Ranger Cheerleaders.

Northwestern families enjoy dinner prepared by the Rowdy Rangers during Family Day.

After "shopping for tuition" at businesses in Alva during Family Day, family members winning tuition waivers for their students enrolled at Northwestern are Dalene Dauphin, parent of Patricia Dauphin, Freedom freshman; David Beard, parent of Emilee Beard, Alva freshman; Skeeter Bird, Executive Director of the Northwestern Foundation; and David Wymer, parent of Caleb Wymer, Fairview freshman.  Dauphin won $200 in tuition money along with Beard winning $300 and Wymer winning the $500 tuition prize.

Traveling the furthest distance to attend Northwestern's Family Day Sept. 20 are Tedra Doughty, parent of Justin Fulmer, Farmerville, La., sophomore; Nicole Towns, Northwestern Bookstore; Connie Ridgway, parent of Grant Ridgway, Hazelton, Kan., freshman; and Jeretta Sandoz, parent of Daryl Glover, Crowley, Texas. Each person received Northwestern t-shirts as their prize.

Approximately 250 people enjoyed the festivities of Family Day at Northwestern Oklahoma State University this fall.

“We were very pleased with the attendance at Family Day this year,” said Brad Franz, vice president for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

Northwestern students and their families were encouraged to register as they arrived in the Northwestern Bookstore to receive prizes.  Ninety-nine families registered at Family Day this year.

“There was a great turn out, and we were able to offer the families a fun-filled day,” Franz said.

During the presidential pre-game program Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, welcomed all the families, and refreshments were served.

After the reception, families were encouraged to attend the tailgate and enjoy the food served by the Rowdy Rangers.

“This event wouldn’t have been possible without all the help from administration, faculty, staff and the students who brought their families to campus,” Franz said.  “We also appreciate the Rowdy Rangers and those who helped serve for all their hard work.”

Family Day is an annual event where Northwestern students have the opportunity to show their families around campus.
