FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                September 23, 2008

In hopes to improve Homecoming 2008, Ranger Heroes:  Legends of Northwestern, the Northwestern/Alva Homecoming Association plans to use funds from the City of Alva Tourism Committee to increase float prizes and float reimbursements for this year’s parade.

Float prizes have been increased to $200 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.  This is a significant increase from last year’s prizes established for $25, $15 and $10 for first, second and third places.

“We are very grateful to the Alva Tourism Committee for enhancing the homecoming parade and restoring some of the luster for the event,” said Dr. Mike Knedler, chair of the Homecoming committee.

Float reimbursements up to $500 will be provided to the first 12 groups who present receipts verifying expenses. Reimbursements will be provided to campus organizations and to off campus, non-profit organizations.  This is an increase of $300 from last year’s reimbursements.

In addition, each float in all categories will be considered for the President’s Award ($100 and engraved plaque) for the best overall float, and the Alumni Association Award ($75) for an exceptional display of Ranger spirit.

Participants are encouraged to attend one of the float information sessions on Monday, Sept. 29, at noon or 5:30 p.m., in the Ranger Perk to receive specific information regarding rules and guidelines for float building.

In order to receive reimbursements and prizes, participants must attend the required Float Building Workshop on Thursday, Oct. 2, at noon in the Ranger Perk.

Applications must be turned in to the Student Services office in the Fine Arts building by 5 p.m. on Oct. 9.

The Student Services office is located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building, and office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

All applications should include a sketch or design, including details for approval.
