FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                                    July 29, 2008

Mike Klemme, the official Oklahoma Centennial photographer, is one of two special guests to share his knowledge and work at the upcoming free Photography Show and Workshop presented by the Northwestern Creativity Project.

Klemme will be selling and autographing copies of his large-format coffee table book “Celebrating Oklahoma!” which was created for the state’s Centennial celebration, at Friday’s photography show and reception from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Runnymede Hotel in downtown Alva.

Klemme also will have a number of his photographs on display during the show on Friday, as well as on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  During the workshop sessions on Saturday, he will be sharing his expertise on photography with more than 40 participants who have registered. The workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude with his special presentation at 4 p.m.

“Celebrating Oklahoma!” is a 288-page book that includes more than 400 photographs selected from the nearly 20,000 images Klemme captured during his 20-month journey across all of Oklahoma’s 77 counties. More than 120 communities are represented. Every two-page spread has a small Oklahoma map that shows the county location where the image was photographed.

Klemme has spent the past 20 years photographing resorts, golf courses, architecture and communities around the world.  During this journey, he has traveled more than four million miles and explored 2,000 destinations in nearly 50 countries. His photographs have appeared in Sports Illustrated, Forbes, Cigar Aficionado, The Wall Street Journal, Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, Business Week and countless other national and international lifestyle publications. Klemme’s work also has been featured in four books capturing some of the world’s most beautiful golf courses and resorts. His framed signature shots are treasured by collectors worldwide and often are used for high-end promotional gifts.

Jim Richey of Alva, who specializes in black and white photography, also is a special guest of the show and workshop. Richey will have a number of his photographs on display during the Friday and Saturday show, and also will be serving as a facilitator during the workshop roundtable sessions on Saturday. He also will have a matting and framing display available for discussion during lunch of the workshop.

Anyone still wishing to register for the workshop, may do so through Thursday by visiting and filling out the form located there.  For additional information, please contact Dr. Rod Murrow, associate dean of graduate studies, at (580) 327-8589 or
