AMERICA’S LEGACY OF FREEDOM SERIES TO BE HELD IN ENID
Dr. J. Rufus Fears, internationally distinguished scholar and author, will present America’s Legacy of Freedom weekly Sept. 8 – Oct. 13 in
Enid. The event is sponsored by Northern Oklahoma College, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Enid Public Schools and numerous local corporate partners.
The lecture series is free to the public.
Graduate credit will be offered through Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and undergraduate credit will be available through Northern Oklahoma College. Additional reading and writing will be required as class work for the tuition-based courses. Professional development credits also are available for local educators and other professionals.
The five-part lecture series will be conducted each week on Monday evenings at 7 p.m., with the exception of Sept.15 when there will be no lecture. The first four lectures will be hosted in Montgomery Hall in the Gantz Center on the NOC campus. The final lecture will be at Enid Symphony Center. Topic lectures include:
Fears is the David Ross Boyd Professor of Classics at the University of Oklahoma, where he holds the G.T. and Libby Blankenship Chair in the History of Liberty. He also serves as the David and Ann Brown Distinguished Fellow of the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs.
Fears received his Ph.D., from Harvard University and is the author of numerous studies in Greek and Roman history, the history of freedom, and the lessons of history that can be applied to today’s world.
Fears is a three-time University of Oklahoma Professor of the Year recipient. In 2003, he received the University Continuing Education Association Great Plains Region
Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2005, he was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Classical Association of the Middle West and South, among numerous other awards.
