FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 1, 2008
LOCAL CREATIVITY PROJECT PLANNING PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW, WORKSHOP
Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s “Creativity Project” committee is playing host to its first event Friday and Saturday, Aug. 1 and 2, at the Runnymede Hotel in downtown Alva.
A free Photography Show and Workshop titled “Picture My Weekend” will take place for participants at all digital photography skill levels and for varying types of digital cameras.
Special guests at the show and workshop are professional photographers Mike Klemme of Enid and Jim Richey of Alva.
Klemme was Oklahoma’s official “Centennial Photographer” and is the author of “Celebrating Oklahoma,” a photographic essay of the Sooner State. His work may be viewed at www.mikeklemme.com and www.celebratingoklahoma.com.
Richey is well-known in the area for his black and white photographs. He is involved in a number of local projects and was one of several who helped with the restoration of the Runnymede Hotel. His photographs may be viewed at www.jimrichey.com.
On Friday, anyone planning on taking part in the Saturday workshop is welcome to provide items for the photography show set for 7 to 9 p.m. Each participant is welcome to bring four or five framed pieces to have on display and sale on the first floor of the Runnymede. Participants may bring additional items in the event that panel space is available.
The Max Ridgway Trio will provide music during the Friday evening photography show, which will be free and open to the public.
Saturday’s workshop will be on the second floor and will include a number of roundtable sessions provided to help photographers at all skill levels become better at their craft or just to figure out how to use that new camera received at Christmastime. The photography show will continue downstairs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be open to the public.
Workshop sessions will include Introduction to Digital Photography, Manual Camera Settings for Your Digital Camera, Basic Photo Editing/Photo Sharing, and two tips and tricks sessions to help everyone try various ways to improve their photographic skills.
At 11 a.m. all participants will leave the Runnymede for a Photo Scavenger Hunt on the downtown square to put to use the information learned during the first two sessions of the day. Upon their return, the participants’ best photos will be downloaded for a slide show later in the afternoon.
Lunch will be provided at noon so that participants can view the photos on display, visit with each other or Richey, who will be available to talk about matting and framing.
Klemme will round out the workshop with a session for all participants.
Pre-registration is required so the committee will have an idea of how many people will be in attendance.
For additional information, to register and/or to volunteer to help facilitate the roundtable discussions, please contact Dr. Rod Murrow, associate dean of graduate studies, at (580) 327-8589 or email@example.com. Information also is available online at www.nwosu.edu/graduate/creativity/photography.htm.
