FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                            September 12, 2008

Impressive new structures welcoming people to the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus will be dedicated in a ceremony on Thursday, Sept. 18.

Gifts from the family of Richard and Johnece Ryerson of Alva, the two new structures made of brick and custom stonework, will welcome visitors to campus at the corner of U.S 281 and Oklahoma Boulevard (U.S. 64) on the northeast corner of campus, and at the north entrance to campus at the intersection of Seventh Street and Oklahoma Boulevard.

The public dedication ceremony will begin at 5:15 p.m, at the Seventh Street entrance to campus. The ceremony will be part of the activities associated with the annual visit of the Board of Regents of the Regional University System of Oklahoma.

“It was important to us that we honor the Ryerson family during the visit by Board of Regents,” said Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president. “Richard Ryerson provided nine years of dedicated service to the Regents, and I know they wanted to be a part of the ceremony.”

An unusually rainy August and September have slowed work on the projects. While major construction on the Seventh Street project will be completed by Sept. 18, the project on the northeast corner of campus will take a little longer.

The lighted structures feature stonework with the University’s name and Ranger mascot, pedestrian benches and areas for plants and flowers.

“The new structures will be beautiful and will complete a major facelift of the north side of our campus,” Cunningham said. “We are deeply grateful to the Ryerson family for their support of this project and for their years of supporting Northwestern.”
