Northwestern prepares for County Fair

Woods County Fair patrons will have the opportunity to get their blood pressure checked, get an athlete’s autograph and register for prizes at Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s booth in the Merchants Building Sept. 7-9.

Members of the university’s nursing program will be at the booth from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 7; 3 to 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 8; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9, to provide blood pressure checks as a service to the community.

On Thursday, members of the Ranger men’s basketball team will be at the booth to provide autographs from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Immediately after the Rangers leave, members of the Lady Rangers’ team will arrive, also to sign autographs and visit with fans.

Members of the Ranger soccer team will take a turn at the booth from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Area high school seniors
to be at NWOSU for College Fair

High school seniors from the northwest Oklahoma area are expected to be on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University campus Thursday, Sept. 21, for the Area-Wide College Fair sponsored by the Northwestern Office of Recruitment.  Read more...


Northwestern celebrating
Hispanic Heritage Month
The Northwestern Student Services offices have planned special events for students, employees and the general public during the month of September to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

  • Thursday, Sept. 7, 7 p.m., movie "Stand and Deliver," Alva-Ranger Perk; Enid-Board Room; Woodward-Ranger Connection classes and offering it to anyone else who would like to show it.

  • Tuesday, Sept. 12, 3 p.m., Viva la Fiesta -- Jalapeno Eating Contest, Piñata Breaking and more, Alva-East side of horseshoe parking; Enid-Campus Commons; Woodward-Salsa Tasting in the Commons Area.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 20, 7 p.m., Speaker -- "Rock My World: The Hispanic Migration in Texas County," Sara Jane Richter, Department of English at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Alva-IE131; Enid-ITV220; Woodward-Studio B.

Future events in the Heritage Celebration Series include November - Native American Heritage Month; February - Black History Month; and March - Women's History Month.

Heartland BEST 2006
kicks off Saturday at NWOSU

Heartland BEST 2006 robotics competition kicks off “Laundry Quandary” on the campus of Northwestern Oklahoma State University Saturday. Approximately 180 high school and middle school students comprising 17 teams will come together to learn about this year’s contest and get their first glimpse of this year’s playing field.

            Northwestern, as the local hub for BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology), and the local BEST sponsors provide the equipment needed for each team to construct a robot, as well as the equipment required to operate and power the robot.  Read more...

Journal publishes Heath Stotts' paper
Heath Stotts, a Northwestern Oklahoma State University student from Enid, has had an article published in the American Journal of Undergraduate Research. He is a junior majoring in biology.

Stotts worked with Dr. Jo Conceicao, associate professor of physical chemistry, and titled his paper “Visualizing Bond Types with Electron Density Models: How Informative Is Electronegativity?”
