Family Day is Saturday
Families of all Northwestern Oklahoma State University students are invited to the Alva campus Saturday, Sept. 30, for annual Family Day festivities, including the chance to win tuition waivers for the spring semester.

A reception for students, their family members and friends, faculty and staff will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Ranger Room. Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, will speak briefly and cheerleaders and mascot Rowdy Ranger will be on hand. Door prizes will be awarded and families can register to win prizes from the Northwestern Bookstore for having traveled the longest distance to attend. The “distance” winners will be announced at halftime of the football game.

Concert Series to offer
wide variety of attractions
The Shangri-La Chinese Acrobats provide an unusual and high energy kickoff to the 2006-2007 season of the Northwest Oklahoma Concert Series. The troupe, formerly known as the Chinese Magic Revue, will be performing at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Herod Hall Auditorium on the campus of Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva.

This season also will feature five attractions instead of the usual four. Other performers include a cappella group Toxic Audio on Nov. 14, Go for Baroque chamber group on Feb. 6, singer Karla Bonoff on Feb. 23 and the Artie Shaw Orchestra on April 4.  Read more...

Northwestern Ranger cheerleaders joined in with the Ranger band, football players, soccer players, students, employees and fans for a Red Riot Bonfire/Pep Rally at Ranger Field Thursday evening. For more photos of the bonfire, click here.

Alumni Association organizing
fan bus for Ranger's Panhandle game
The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Alumni Association is organizing a bus trip to take fans to the Ranger football game with Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell at 1 p.m., Oct. 7.

Lizabeth Richey, alumni director, said the bus would leave from the Percefull Fieldhouse parking lot at 7 a.m. on that Saturday. Read more...

Theatre students to present one-acts
Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s theatre program will present its first production of the year Sept. 28-30 at 8 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium. Admission is $2 for students and $5 for non-students.

An “Evening of Susan Glaspell” is a combination of two one-act plays, “Suppressed Desires” and “Trifles.”  “Suppressed Desires” is a comedy and “Trifles” is what some consider as one of the best written one-act plays because it follows the rules of playwriting perfectly, assistant professor of theatre Kimberly Weast said.  Read more...

Expert in Antarctic medicine, research
to speak at Northwestern Oct. 6

An expert in Antarctic medicine, research and exploration will be a guest speaker at Northwestern Oklahoma State University Friday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. in the Science Amphitheater.

Desmond J. Lugg, M.D., is a Distinguished Research Professor in the School of Public Policy at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., and is director of Medicine of Extreme Environments at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.  Read more...

Unique art show scheduled
at Northwestern-Enid
Eleven Enid area art teachers will showcase their work at an “Art Teachers as Artists” exhibition and sale at Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid. The show will take place in the university’s commons area from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7. The Friday evening function is a reception with refreshments. Saturday will be a gallery-type show only. Admission is free both days and the public is invited.  Read more...

Oklahoma author to speak at Northwestern on Oct. 9
Dayna Dunbar, author and Oklahoma native, will appear on the Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Alva campus at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, in Room 109 of the Struckle Education Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Her appearance, sponsored by Northwestern’s J.W. Martin Library and the Alva Public Library, is part of the Oklahoma Reads Oklahoma lecture series. Dunbar’s novel, The Saints and Sinners of Okay County, was selected by an online public vote as the series’ 2006 book, and she will make appearances throughout the state. Read more...

'Ride with Pride' campaign launched
“Ride with Pride,” a new year-long campaign at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, kicked off Wednesday.

Dr. Janet Cunningham, university president, said that upon becoming president in July, one of her short-term goals was to develop a plan to build university pride among Northwestern employees, students, alumni and friends.

“We have much to be proud about at Northwestern, and we need to showcase the great things that are occurring at our campuses,” Cunningham said.  Read more...

Presidential Partners Golf Classic Oct. 5;
Chesapeake Energy is title sponsor

A field of nearly 100 golfers is expected to participate in the 7th annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Presidential Partners Golf Classic, Thursday, Oct. 5 at Boiling Springs Golf Course near Woodward.

The event is a benefit for the Presidential Partners program at Northwestern. Since its inception in 2000, the program has supported the development of the President’s Leadership Class program, sponsored the participation of students in national events and competitions, provided funds for special unmet needs to enhance teaching and learning, and supported special projects to enhance student recruitment and retention.  Read more...
