September 30, 2008 Northwestern Oklahoma State University has been given formal approval to begin an agriculture education program by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. The program, only the third of its kind in Oklahoma, is expected to offer its first classes in the fall of 2009. “We have spent a little more than a year working to secure approval of this program, so we are understandably excited and ready to begin recruiting students,” said Dr. Janet Cunningham, president of Northwestern. October 1, 2008 support from Wisdom Family Foundation Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s new agriculture education program received a major endorsement as the Wisdom Family Foundation, Inc., has given the school $250,000 to endow a faculty chair position in agriculture. The donation from the Wisdom Family Foundation marks the third major gift given by the organization and the Wisdom family to Northwestern this summer. Previous gifts include $250,000 to establish an endowed chair in visual art and the donation of several pieces of farm equipment to the agriculture program. Read more... September 23, 2008 to Northwestern Oct. 1 The powerful and ambitious hard rock band RED from Nashville will share its metallic riffs at the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Red Riot Concert Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 8 p.m. in Percefull Fieldhouse. RED has earned radio success, widespread acclaim and even a Grammy Award nomination. The band’s release of “End of Silence” brought them the Top 10 smashes “Breathe Into Me,” “Let Go” and “Already Over.”
October 1, 2008 Northwestern Oklahoma State University will offer a new window to the world on Oct. 8 as it launches a newly-designed web site. The new web site will feature a striking new design and employ features that should increase return traffic. “Our web site is an important element in our overall recruitment and communications plan,” said Steve Valencia, associate vice president for university relations. “Northwestern has made significant progress in many areas over the past few years, and it was time we made similar progress on our web presence.” Read more... September 23, 2008 In hopes to improve Homecoming 2008, Ranger Heroes: Legends of Northwestern, the Northwestern/Alva Homecoming Association plans to use funds from the City of Alva Tourism Committee to increase float prizes and float reimbursements for this year’s parade.
Float prizes have been increased to $200 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place. This is a significant increase from last year’s prizes established for $25, $15 and $10 for first, second and third places. Read more...

September 4, 2008 Democracy Now, under the umbrella of the State Regents of Higher Education Campus Compact grant program, has formed as a local, non-partisan service learning project organized and coordinated by a class of government students at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. These students welcome members of the university, their families and surrounding community residents to attend a series of election forums to be held in the seven weeks preceding the National Nov. 4 General Election.
